Lucknow: Once again, rising street crime in the state capital has raised serious concerns over public safety. A shocking incident of ‘tappebaazi’ (distraction theft) took place under the Amausi Metro Station in the Sarojini Nagar police area, where unidentified thieves stole two mobile phones from a moving car.
The victim, Saurabh Dwivedi, an officer at Chandigarh University, Unnao, was travelling to Lucknow in his Kia Sonet. Due to traffic congestion near the metro station, he had to stop his vehicle. Suddenly, someone knocked on his car door. As soon as he slightly rolled down the window to check, the thieves seized the opportunity and snatched two mobile phones kept inside the car.
The stolen phones include:
- OnePlus (black, with two Airtel SIM cards)
- Motorola Fusion 60 (IMEI 357719190477673, with one SIM)
Dwivedi immediately filed a written complaint at Sarojini Nagar Police Station. A case has been registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unknown offenders.

Police are now scanning nearby CCTV footage and claim that the accused will be identified and arrested soon.
This incident has once again highlighted the lack of security in crowded public areas, prompting local residents to demand stricter patrolling and preventive measures from law enforcement.
